Meet the Founders

Erez and Beth - engineers, entrepreneurs, and musicians - founded EasyReeds in their home state of Maine with the goal to make woodwind music more accessible for everyone.

  • Erez Katz, President

In 30 years of playing the clarinet, Erez learned that the hardest part of playing the instrument is finding the perfect reed. Trained as a musician and a professional engineer, Erez is passionate about the quality of the reed, comfort with the instrument, and the confidence of the player.

  • Beth Katz, Co-Founder

Beth is an accomplished product engineering executive with over 20 years of experience in creating new products for companies all over the world. This is her third start-up, born of passion for 3-D manufacturing, for making products that make life easier, and for listening to beautiful music.

Our Technology

EasyReeds technology is based on a patent-pending additive manufacturing process that precisely aligns the reed material in the shape of cane fibers.

Our technique makes it possible to control the mass balance along the length of the reed, the shape proportion from the heart to the rails and tip, and the mouthpiece fit to within 10 microns or less.

In this way, we can build a precisely balanced reed that mimics the sound of cane without the variability of natural fiber and with a much longer life.

Our Mission

Every musician knows that "wow!" moment when they discover their sound. We make stable, powerful, reliable reeds that get students to find their sound faster - and keep it throughout their careers - at a price they can afford.

  • Quality

Each reed is subject to quality control and individual inspection under a microscope to ensure that it does not deviate from standard.

  • Purity

Our reeds are made from single-sourced plastics that do not decay or degrade over time. No fiber additives, colorants, or coatings are used.

  • Safety

All our reeds are made from EU-sourced, REACH certified materials that are free of pthalates, BPA, lead, and endocrine-disrupting contaminants.
